From Bow to Brew – Personalized Practice and Shimo Neighborhood Walk (October 2026 🇺🇸🇵🇱)
October was a memorable month for Tokyo Karate Dojo Experience in Shimo, Tokyo. We had the pleasure of hosting four different guests from around the world—ranging from a honeymoon couple to a long-time martial arts practitioner, young enthusiasts, and a solo female traveler.
Here are a few moments and memories from last month's sessions.
1. A Honeymoon Couple
We welcomed a lovely couple visiting Japan on their honeymoon. They were looking for a hands-on martial arts experience, but felt hesitant to join a regular daily class with local members, worrying they might disrupt the practice. After searching on Google Gemini for a private session, they found us. Arriving in Shimo earlier before their practice, they explored the local neighborhood and used Google Lens to enjoy a delicious local lunch at Kaiheiken, a classic neighborhood eatery nearby. They then joined us for a custom session tailored entirely to their pace.
2. A Dedicated Martial Artist
A traveler from the US, visiting Japan for his fourth time, joined us for a deep dive into classical karate mechanics. Having practiced various styles for 26 years and learning Japanese, he brought insightful technical questions regarding hikite (chambering the hand) and posture. We had a great discussion over drinks at a local kakuuchi (standing drink spot), sharing personal stories and local snacks from Ota Nikuya.
3. Young Practitioners from Poland
Two friends in their 20s joined a last-minute session. One of them, a Shotokan practitioner, was eager to experience classical karate training in Japan. Together, we worked on Heian Sandan and Enpi katas. It is always inspiring to see young travelers passionate about Japanese martial arts and culture.
4. A Female Solo Traveler
A guest traveling solo joined us for a private session. Although she had no prior martial arts background, her fundamental punch (choku-zuki) was remarkably solid. We focused on foundational body mechanics and basic movements. She spent her time in Tokyo enjoying various cultural experiences, including a tea ceremony in Asakusa and exploring the quiet streets of Shimo.
Why Our Guests Love the Shimo Area
Many of our guests mention how much they enjoy exploring the surrounding area before or after their session. Shimo offers a quiet, everyday side of Tokyo away from the crowded tourist hubs, where visitors can walk through traditional shopping streets, try local snacks, and interact with the friendly community.
Whether you are traveling as a couple, with friends, or solo, Tokyo Karate Dojo Experience offers 100% private sessions tailored to your background and fitness level. We look forward to welcoming more guests in the coming months. 🙂
