From Bow to Brew – Connecting Minds and Cultures in Tokyo (Late September 2026 🇵🇱🇺🇸)

日本語

On Tuesday, six young guests from Poland visited the Tokyo Karate Dojo Experience. 🇵🇱

We began by focusing on breathing techniques to calm the mind. After that, we practiced Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) to experience aligning breath and awareness with a partner. While this naturally carried a sense of team building, what remained most clear was the quiet harmony and friendship among them.

During our Cozy Time in the traditional "Kakuuchi" space, we shared relaxed conversations. They spoke about Polish mead, a honey wine I had not encountered before, and I look forward to trying it when the opportunity arises. I offered them wasabi-flavored green peas as a small taste of Japan, and it was remarkable how quickly they enjoyed them.

On Friday, a family from the United States joined us for practice. 🇺🇸

Rather than relying on physical strength, the session focused on mindful movement, natural alignment, and utilizing body weight and gravity. Toward the end, they practiced the front kick (Mae-geri) against training pads. While the younger members performed admirably, their father demonstrated a powerful and exceptionally stable kick.

For our post-practice Cozy Time, we took a short walk to a local butcher shop to pick up fresh croquettes (korokke). Sharing this simple neighborhood flavor provided a quiet, genuine glimpse into local life.

I hope their journey through Japan brings them quiet joy and meaningful experiences.
