The Spirit of Budo in Shinshu: International Students Experience Karate
Today, I went to Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, to take charge of this year's karate experience session in the “Budo and traditional culture workshop” for international students at Shinshu University.
I have been given this opportunity every year, partly because I am from Shinshu University.
There were 28 participants this time.
First, I talked about the appeal of the martial art of karate from the perspectives of history, philosophy and technique, which I consider to be the three great points of karate.
After that, I had them actually experience the movements of Tsuki(punch) and Uke(block), and I was surprised at how quickly they understood.
It would be a great pleasure if the depth of karate and the fascination of Budo could be conveyed to everyone, even if only a little.
