February has started.
January ended very quickly and February has started.
The recent training theme at my dojo is ‘body interlocking’, and I have been working on that.
I suddenly remembered that when I first started Karate in Nagano Prefecture, my sensei at the time taught me that ‘’Karate can be practised in a space the size of a Tatami mat‘’. At the time I doubted whether this was true, as I was still a teenager with a limited vision and only knew movements for competitions.
At my current dojo, we learn based on Kata in order to acquire a ‘higher quality of body control’. We train with the aim of improving the quality of ‘Tsuki(punching)’, ‘Keri(kicking)’ and ‘Uke(blocking)’.
The keyword for learning body interlocking is the ‘Mobius wheel’. Once you get this feeling, you do not need a large space and can practise even in a small space of time.
In my case, I practise using the time I spend waiting for my coffee to drop.
What my sensei taught me about 30 years ago was true.
