My Karate practice this week.
During Wednesday’s session, I had the opportunity to do pre-arranged kumite with a 73-year-old man.
Pre-arranged kumite is a practice method of attacking and defending using predetermined techniques, also known as “Sotaigata”.
I was almost 30 years younger than him and of course stronger and faster than him, so we practised by breathing together and moving slowly.
The moment a human being starts to move, his or her body emits some information.
The blocking person catches the slightest information, while the attacking person tries to eliminate the information as much as possible.
In this way, it is the same whether you move quickly or slowly, so even if there is an age difference, a pre-arrenged kumite can be fulfilled.
This is one of the interesting aspects of kata practice.
After the practice, there was a social gathering and we had a good beer together.
A drink after practice is also part of a fulfilling time.
